What the report says

UN human rights chief Volker Türk has condemned a sharp rise in drone attacks across Sudan, citing UN human rights office reporting that at least 306 people were killed and hundreds more injured in the first three weeks of October. The strikes were attributed by the UN to both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, and were said to have hit homes, markets, hospitals, displacement sites, power stations and water sources across areas including Kordofan, Darfur, Blue Nile and Khartoum.

According to the UN account carried by AllAfrica, some of the deadliest incidents included attacks on shelters for displaced people in West Kordofan, a strike near a displacement site in Blue Nile, and a repeat strike in Dibab that killed 139 people when a truck was hit. The UN also said a hospital in Blue Nile was struck and left out of service after health workers were seriously injured. In Abyei, UN peacekeepers reported visiting communities affected by an attack on Amiet Market and the Todach area that killed more than 80 people.

The UN warned that civilians, including displaced people, are bearing the brunt of the fighting and that essential services and infrastructure are being further damaged. Türk urged both sides and their allies to respect international humanitarian law, stop attacks on civilians, and agree to a ceasefire. He said a negotiated settlement with accountability is the only viable path to lasting peace. The broader context is Sudan’s ongoing war, which has displaced millions and created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
