What the report says

More than 20 passengers were injured on Tuesday night when a Nile Star bus overturned along the Arua-Nebbi road in Arua district, according to The Observer. The crash happened at about 8:45 pm in Enzeva village as the bus, an Isuzu with registration number UBF 621T, travelled from Arua city toward Kampala.

The newspaper reported that preliminary findings point to the driver attempting to overtake a trailer on a narrow stretch of road before losing control. The bus then left the road and overturned, leaving several passengers hurt. West Nile police spokesperson Josephine Angucia confirmed that officers responded to the scene.

Injured victims were taken to several health facilities for treatment, including Kuluva Hospital, Arua Regional Referral Hospital and Church of Uganda Hospital in Arua district, The Observer said. Police said the crash was linked to unlawful overtaking and urged motorists to be cautious and assess road conditions before overtaking.

The report said some of the injured admitted to Arua Regional Referral Hospital were identified by name, while others remained among the more than 20 passengers affected. Road crashes remain a common safety concern on busy inter-district routes in Uganda, particularly where traffic mixes with narrow road sections and heavy vehicles.
