26 Injured as Bus Overturns in Arua

What the report says
At least 26 passengers were injured when a Kampala-bound Nile Star bus overturned on the Arua-Nebbi highway in northwestern Uganda, according to Nile Post. The crash happened on Monday night at Enzeva Village, near Arua City, after the bus reportedly lost control while trying to overtake a trailer on a narrow section of road.
Police said the vehicle, a yellow Isuzu bus registration UBF 621T, was travelling from Arua City to Kampala when the driver attempted the overtaking maneuver. Investigators believe unlawful overtaking may have caused the bus to leave the road and overturn. No deaths had been confirmed as of the report, and the injured passengers were taken to Arua Regional Referral Hospital and Kuluva Hospital for treatment and first aid.
West Nile regional police spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia said the victims were rushed to medical facilities and urged motorists to avoid reckless overtaking and to assess road conditions carefully before passing other vehicles. Police said the driver had been arrested and was being held at Arua Central Police Division while inquiries continued.
The incident has renewed attention on road safety along the busy Arua-Nebbi corridor. More broadly, Uganda continues to face a high number of road crashes, with police and safety stakeholders regularly calling for stricter enforcement, safer driving behavior and road improvements, especially on major highways.
