What the report says

Mityana District has registered 8,711 candidates for the 2026 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), according to reporting by Nile Post. The examinations began today, and district education officials said learners are believed to be well prepared after months of school-level revision and support.

Patrick Kiggundu, the District Inspector of Schools, said 5,267 of the candidates are from Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools and 3,444 are from non-UPE schools. He urged pupils to stay calm, remain focused and use the knowledge they have gained during primary school. The district education leadership said it expects strong performance and credited the preparation effort to schools and other stakeholders.

Acting District Education Officer Emmanuel Wamala praised the work done by education officials and said the large number of UPE candidates reflects the role of government-supported schooling in widening access to primary education. He also said the district will keep strengthening inspection and monitoring so teachers complete the curriculum and learners are properly supported for national assessments.

To help administer the exams, Mityana District reportedly paid Shs120,548,000 in mandatory registration fees to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB). More broadly, the PLE is a key transition point for pupils completing primary education and moving on to the next stage of learning.
