What the report says

Yemeni government forces said they made fresh advances in the al-Dahida mountain range in eastern al-Jawf province, after earlier claiming control of the strategic heights there. According to Al Jazeera, the operation involved troops backed by fighter jets and drones and targeted Houthi fortifications, barracks, weapons stockpiles and gatherings. The fighting is part of Operation Dawn of Yemen, a government campaign now in its second month.

The reported gains come as combat intensifies on multiple fronts. Al Jazeera reported that a Houthi ballistic missile struck a military training camp in northern al-Dhalea, killing eight people and injuring more than 15, though no official toll has been confirmed. Government forces also said they carried out air strikes in western Taiz, while in northern Lahij they said they had retaken positions in al-Maqatira district, an area seen as important to the line linking Taiz with Aden.

The government says its broader aim is to restore state authority across Yemen. Rashad al-Alimi, head of the internationally recognised Presidential Leadership Council, said the offensive would continue until that goal is achieved. The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, did not independently confirm the losses described by government forces.

The report also noted wider regional tension, including Saudi air alerts and continued accusations over foreign backing for the Houthis. These developments underscore how Yemen’s war remains active across several provinces despite years of stalemate.
