What the report says

Wakiso District education officials have warned headteachers, teachers, invigilators and exam officers against any form of malpractice during the 2026 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), saying anyone found compromising the integrity of the tests could face prosecution. The warning was delivered by Acting District Education Officer Prim Ritah Nanyanzi during the dispatch of examination materials at Wakiso Police Division headquarters on Monday, as the district joined the nationwide PLE exercise.

According to Nile Post, Nanyanzi told schools that candidates should be allowed to sit the exams on their own merit after years of preparation, and she urged staff to follow professional standards throughout the process. She also cautioned schools against stopping pupils from entering examination centres because of unpaid fees, saying such financial disputes should be handled after the examinations rather than used to bar learners from attending.

She additionally reminded candidates, parents and school administrators to keep to time, saying excuses such as rain would not be accepted. The district said the first day of the exams went smoothly overall, although there was a small logistical issue in which some examination parcels were sent to the wrong places before being corrected.

The article also quoted Chief Scout Samalie Nanvunaanwa, who called for careful handling, counting and return of examination materials. The 2026 PLE began on Monday, November 3, with Mathematics and Social Studies, and was due to end on Tuesday, November 4, with Science and English. The broader concern is the protection of exam credibility, a recurring issue in Uganda’s national assessments.
