Uganda: Kasese-Based Hima Cement Joins Nation in Mourning King Oyo

The report said the king died in the United States on Thursday at the age of 34, with the company’s statement issued on Friday.

The tribute comes as other prominent Ugandan and regional leaders also expressed condolences, including the Kyabazinga of Busoga, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and the ruler of Bukumu Kingdom in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Hima Cement’s message is notable because the company is based in Kasese District, in western Uganda, within the broader Rwenzori region, where it has long had a major presence.

According to the article, Tooro Kingdom officials said King Oyo became monarch in 1995 as a young child after the death of his father. The report said that during his reign he was associated with priorities such as education, healthcare, environmental conservation, tourism, cultural preservation and youth empowerment.
