Man Kills Wife, Lynched by Mob in Kanungu

What the report says
Police in Kanungu District are investigating a double killing after a man allegedly attacked his wife with an axe and was later killed by a mob, according to Nile Post. The incident was reported in Kakyenke Cell, Bihomborwa Ward, Kihihi Town Council, on Monday, November 2, 2026.
The woman was identified as Doreen Kirabo, 20, while the man was named as Aaron Akandinda, 25. Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime said Kirabo had reportedly spent the night at her parents’ home after visiting her sick parents, then returned home where a quarrel broke out. Police said Akandinda is alleged to have struck her on the head with an axe, killing her at the scene.
Nile Post reported that an angry mob then pursued Akandinda and assaulted him to death. Police said no one had been arrested over the mob killing at the time of publication, and investigators were working to identify those involved.
Police condemned both killings and urged members of the public to use formal channels, including police, probation officers and local leaders, to address domestic disputes instead of resorting to violence. The case has also drawn attention because it combines suspected domestic violence with mob justice, an issue police in Uganda often warn can worsen criminal incidents and block lawful investigations.
