Kisoro Leaders Fault MPs Over Delayed Repair of Mucha Bridge

What the report says
Kisoro district councillors have blamed divisions among local Members of Parliament for delays in fixing Mucha Bridge, which they say is affecting daily movement and access to essential services in Nyundo Sub-county and nearby areas. The concerns were raised during a monitoring visit to the damaged bridge along the Kisoro–Bukimbiri road, where leaders urged faster action from the district and central government.
According to the councillors cited by Nile Post, the bridge is a key link for residents travelling to health facilities, markets and tourism sites, and for movement toward Bukimbiri County and the border area with the Democratic Republic of Congo. They warned that the damage is making travel harder for pregnant women and other residents seeking medical care, while also disrupting business and tourism activity. Some leaders also said conditions could worsen during the rainy season.
Several councillors called on the district engineer, the Kisoro District Woman MP and other area lawmakers to push for repairs and funding. The chairperson of the district Social Services Sectoral Committee said disagreements among legislators were weakening joint lobbying efforts for development projects. Kisoro District Chief Administrative Officer John Nyakahuma said motorists should use alternative routes while the district seeks support, noting that repairs are beyond the district’s own financial capacity.
More broadly, the report highlights the strain that damaged rural infrastructure can place on healthcare access, local trade and regional connectivity. That context is consistent with the wider challenge many Ugandan districts face when major bridge repairs depend on central government funding.
