Govt to Build Shs500m Surgical Theatre at Bwijanga Health Centre IV

What the report says
The Ministry of Health plans to build a surgical theatre at Bwijanga Health Centre IV in Masindi District at an estimated cost of Shs500 million, according to Nile Post. The project is expected to be implemented through the Uganda People's Defence Forces and is scheduled to start in the third quarter of the 2026/27 financial year.
Masindi District LC5 Chairperson Patrick Wobusobozi announced the plan while presenting the district’s State of the District Address for 2025/26 during an ordinary council sitting. He said the new theatre is part of broader investments in health infrastructure, water and sanitation across the district. He also noted that the district had already spent Shs99.9 million renovating the outpatient ward at Bwijanga Health Centre IV in the 2025/26 financial year.
Beyond the theatre, the district has lined up several other health projects for 2026/27, including staff housing works, outpatient department completion, fencing for Nyantonzi Health Centre III, laboratory renovations, and a new pit latrine and bathing shelter at selected facilities. The wider plan also includes road maintenance and water projects such as a piped water system, borehole rehabilitation and a new deep borehole.
The proposed theatre matters because it could expand surgical capacity at a lower-level facility serving residents in the area. Wobusobozi also urged communities to protect public infrastructure and natural resources, and to support government programmes so that the investments deliver better services.
