What the report says

The Dr. Obote College Alumni Taskforce has urged Old Boys and Old Girls of Dr. Obote College, Boroboro, to mobilise one another and take part in elections for alumni leadership set for 12 December 2026 at the Boroboro Campus in Lira City. The appeal followed a management meeting held on 28 October 2026 in Lira City East Division to discuss how the vote will be run.

According to Dokolo Post, the taskforce wants alumni to reconnect with former classmates, spread information about the election, and support a process that is transparent, inclusive and credible. The leadership team says broad participation is needed to produce office bearers who can coordinate alumni activities, strengthen networks and help organise support for the school and its students.

Taskforce chairperson Prof. Dr. Alex Ario Otema said the election is intended to revitalise the alumni community and build a platform for collaboration, mentorship and resource mobilisation. The positions to be contested include president, vice president, general secretary, deputy general secretary, treasurer, committee members and a public relations officer, alongside regional coordinators for several parts of Uganda and the diaspora.

The report also notes that the college leadership sees the alumni effort as part of a wider push to support the school’s growth. Headteacher Rev. Dick Alengo said the institution has about 1,000 students and is advancing a new laboratory project, with five billion shillings reportedly allocated by management and the Board of Governors. The college is being presented as an institution seeking to restore its former academic standing.
