Centenary Bank Reaffirms Commitment to Sports Development at Masaza Cup Final

What the report says
Centenary Bank said it is continuing to back sports development and community initiatives in Uganda after the 2026 Masaza Cup ended with Kyaggwe winning its first title since the competition resumed in 2004. According to Watchdog Uganda, Kyaggwe beat Gomba 1-0 in the final played at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on 2 November 2026. The match was attended by Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
The report says the bank has supported the tournament for 13 years and provided UGX 200 million for this year’s edition. It also recognised standout players, including top scorer Kasule Mohamed, who received UGX 1 million, and Herbert Masaba, named best goalkeeper. Centenary Bank’s managing director, Godfrey Byekwaso, said the competition helps nurture young talent, encourage unity and preserve Buganda’s cultural heritage.
Watchdog Uganda said the bank’s involvement in the Masaza Cup fits into a wider partnership with the Buganda Kingdom, including support for the CBS Kaliisoliiso Dinner, the Kabaka Birthday Run and other engagements. More broadly, the bank said it allocates 1.5% of the previous year’s profits to community initiatives such as education, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, financial inclusion and local development. The sponsorship highlights how corporate support can help sustain local football while also strengthening cultural and community ties.
