Argentina intensifies campaign against Falklands oil companies

The companies have previously said they hold valid licences from the Falkland Islands government and do not expect the dispute to stop development.

The renewed campaign comes as Milei reasserts Argentina’s sovereignty claim over the islands, which are administered by Britain and lie about 600 kilometres east of Argentina’s southern tip. Britain responded with guidance saying it supports lawful economic activity in the islands and does not accept Argentine jurisdiction there. The issue remains highly sensitive because of the 1982 war, and it could create wider commercial and diplomatic tension if Buenos Aires expands its actions against island-based economic activity.
