What the report says

Sqoop Uganda reports that New Club Obligato, a long-running Kampala entertainment venue closely associated with Afrigo Band, has closed after management ended its tenancy at Teachers House, also identified as the UNATU Building on Bombo Road. The closure took effect on Monday, September 14, 2026, marking the end of the club’s run at the site after years of hosting live music and dance events.

According to the publication, the venue had become a familiar gathering place for Afrigo Band fans and a notable part of the city’s nightlife. Its regular performances helped give it a strong identity in Kampala’s entertainment scene, especially among generations of music lovers who viewed it as a home for the band.

Management said the decision was difficult and referenced unspecified “issues” behind the move, while also thanking customers for their loyalty and support. The farewell message specifically acknowledged the Afrigo fan community for helping make the venue special.

Sqoop Uganda says a new location is being planned, and management has promised to share details once that site is confirmed. The closure matters because it removes a well-known live-music venue from a prominent entertainment corridor, even as the club signals that its operations may continue elsewhere.
